Your game stays on your device

The Painting Code stores your answers, Daily progress, scores, streaks, practice rotation, theme preferences and a limited log of game events, such as opening the app or sharing a result, locally on your device. These records are not sent to the developer or to an analytics service. No account is required.

Bundled paintings and stories

The paintings, clues, museum details and short descriptions in this version are bundled with the app and work offline. Painting images are public-domain works from Wikimedia Commons. Facts come from Wikidata, and short descriptions come from Wikipedia. Playing does not send your guesses anywhere. The app does not request access to your contacts, location, microphone, camera or photo library.

Reading more on Wikipedia

If you choose “Read on Wikipedia” or open an image source, the page opens in an in-app browser and is loaded from Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons. Those sites receive the request, including your IP address, under the Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy. The Painting Code does not add identifiers to these links and does not see what you read.

Sharing is your choice

When you choose to share a result, The Painting Code hands the score, challenge number and spoiler-free result symbols to the app you select in the system share sheet. That app handles the information under its own privacy policy. The Painting Code does not receive the recipient's identity or messages.

Ads and purchases in this version

This version has no active advertising, payment or third-party analytics SDK. Pro features are marked Coming soon. If a later version adds ads, purchases or remote services, this policy and the app store data declarations will be updated before those services become active.

Keeping and deleting local data

Your local records remain until you clear the app's storage in your device settings or uninstall the app. Clearing storage removes progress, scores, preferences and local game events. Android cloud backup is disabled for this app. There is no developer account or server-side gameplay record to delete.

Platform services and support

Google Play and the App Store handle distribution and may process installation or diagnostic information under their own policies. If you email support, your email address and the details you choose to send are used to answer your request. Please do not include sensitive personal information in a support message.
